Working with the teenage population is my
favorite. I love the sense of awe and wonder that still remains in them
from their childhood days, as well as, their drive to define themselves
as individuals in this stage of adolescence. This is a fun, energetic,
and hopeful group of people to work with. However, our teens are facing
many challenges in our culture today. Our society seems to be moving
faster, and the pressure put on our teens appears to be getting
greater. Often teenagers feel very alone in their home, school, and
even work environments. Many teens feel that they cannot talk to their
parents or caregivers about personal problems. By taking your
adolescent to counseling, you are allowing them to have an objective
ear, empathy, and expertise to aid them in their struggles. Teens are
quick to turn around and have a positive response in therapy when they
are respected, heard, and inspired. It is true that the teen years are
difficult with all of the changes and adapting that come with puberty. You can have a close, open, and
honest relationship between parents and teenagers. Sometimes you just
need a little help to bridge that gap.
